Many church (Orthodox) holidays are celebrated in the summer months of each new year After all, it is during this bright time of year that there are the most bright and sunny days And the closer the Orthodox are to the sun and “light,” the closer they are to the true God
This significant holiday was no exception On this solemn day (August 7), all believers honor the memory of Saints Anna and Joachim Yes, those same ones - the parents of the Holy Mother of God
Not everyone knows that the life of this married couple took place in the most difficult trials and tribulations, which they were able to go through together, no matter what They believed and prayed without ceasing that God would give them the firstborn they had dreamed of for so long
This was a Jewish couple, and, as is known from history, if a family did not have continuation of the family, it was considered inferior and one might even say defective These were cruel times, where ordinary people did not adhere to legal laws, but honored the traditions and customs of their people So it was with the centuries-old faith of the Jewish people
Anna and Joachim loved each other, but in addition to carnal love, they were supported by faith in the Almighty They were in constant prayer for the speedy gift of a child And their prayer was heard by God An angel appeared and announced to the couple that the conception of a child was imminent
On this great holiday for most Orthodox Christians, many pray for:• the birth of a child• strengthening marital prosperity• asking to ward off adversity and misfortune
In general, the most simple, but so necessary requests to the one whose power extends everywhere, without any boundaries or rules
In the conception of this couple, a child can definitely be considered God's providence After all, it is almost impossible for an older woman to do this without outside help And God, as everyone knows, conquers all the laws of nature and the bonds of infertility This is how it was and how it will always be
It is not for nothing that people call Anna and Jokima “Godfathers,” because they are rightfully the direct ancestors of Jesus Christ
The spouses did not perform incredible feats and miracles They were able to carry through their entire lives other (no less severe and sorrowful) sorrows: • infertility • hope • approaching old age without continuing their family line
This great holiday makes believers think about how bright and cloudless life is when kids run around, cheerfully and naturally enjoying all the quirks of everyday existence
