Every year on September 20, all customs officers, declarants and customs representatives of the Republic of Belarus celebrate their professional holiday, Customs Officer Day The holiday was established by presidential decree in 1996 in order to emphasize the importance of the role of the customs service in the economic development of the country and ensuring its security The establishment of the holiday brought the profession of a customs officer to a new level and gave a powerful impetus to the development of the customs service as a full-fledged law enforcement agency The Republic of Belarus, as a state bordering five neighbors, is interested not only in preserving its national integrity, but also in developing socio-economic relations Geographically, Belarus has always been one of the key European centers for the intersection of trade routes, and therefore the most important task for the state is to protect its economic interests and the impossibility of counterfeit, prohibited products, cargo and illegal immigrants crossing the borders of the Republic Therefore, to protect its borders, the Customs Committee of the Republic was formed in 1991, and subsequently legislative documents were developed and adopted regulating the legal powers, tasks and functions of the customs service Some of the most important documents are the “Customs Code” and the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On the Customs Tariff” Also in 2001, by decree of the President, a special heraldic sign was established - the emblem and flag of the customs authorities, which once again emphasized the role of customs services in the prosperity of the state Traditionally, on their professional holiday, customs services sum up the results of their work, the best employees are awarded badges, certificates of honor, letters of gratitude, and memorable gifts Also on this solemn day, extraordinary titles are awarded and customs veterans are honored To maintain foreign trade economic relations with their neighbor, Russia and Ukraine, as a rule, send delegations to participate in press conferences and to present a welcome letter with congratulations In addition to their state professional holiday, the customs services of the Republic and its representatives celebrate International Customs Day, which is celebrated annually on January 26
