Recycling waste, the result of human activity, allows us to preserve natural resources and show concern for the ecology of the planet Every year, Russian residents throw out about 70 million tons of household waste, which is taken to landfills and landfills Packaging waste and sending it to enterprises for processing and producing recyclable materials is on the agenda in many countries around the world, whose citizens are concerned about the state of the environment Since 2018, March 18 has been celebrated as Global Recycling Day It is intended to draw attention to one of the most pressing problems - the pollution of the oceans and the bowels of the earth, the creation of unfavorable conditions for the existence of flora and fauna on the planet Household waste is buried in landfills or burned in ovens, which is not a rational use of most waste This applies to both metals and wood, which are available for recycling, as well as other materials These include asphalt pavement and petroleum products, plastics and polymers, glass and construction waste, and textiles for clothing All of them are subject to recycling - processing and reuse The production of a paper bag requires 4 times more energy and resources than a plastic bag Development of the petrochemical industry in the mid-twentieth century led to a real boom and fashion for plastic, which quickly became one of the serious environmental problems Disposable bags, PET bottles, dishes and tires take tens and hundreds of years to decompose in the ground And the inhabitants of the planet throw out about 300 billion tons of plastic waste every year This is why up to 70% of used PET has been recycled in Europe for many years It is used to produce polyester fibers for synthetic clothing, carpets, car upholstery, etc Collected glass bottles become raw materials from which mirrors, windows and dishes, glass wool and glass concrete are made all over the world After melting, rubber products are used to make mats, seals and other accessories Electronics are disassembled to extract precious and rare earth metals, which, after cleaning, are used in new devices Organic waste from household waste becomes a source for the production of fertilizers, feed (bone meal) and other products Modern methods of waste recycling not only help to save natural resources, but also provide significant economic benefits Recycling reduces emissions of more than 700 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year Recycling most waste is cheaper than producing products from natural raw materials and materials Global Recycling Day promotes the development of environmental culture among the population, promotes the rules of waste collection, including their packaging by type to simplify the recycling process This is the main goal of Global Recycling Day, which is celebrated annually on March 18 in Russia and other countries
