Every year on September 7, Armenia celebrates the Day of the Engineering Troops of the Armed Forces of Armenia The holiday currently has professional status, and was established by order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia in 2000 in order to encourage and emphasize the importance of the engineering troops in the role of protecting the national security of the country and preserving its integrity The holiday is dedicated to the date of completion of the formation of the engineering unit of the Armed Forces in 1992 These troops conduct reconnaissance operations in order to clear mines from strategically important areas, carry out work on the construction of fortifications, explosive and non-explosive barriers, shelters, and arrange pontoon crossings, thereby ensuring safe escort of troops on the offensive Another important task of the engineering unit is to carry out humanitarian work to clear mines from border areas that are recognized as dangerous to the lives of the civilian population The troops take part in studying world experience in the field of mine clearance and introduce new technologies aimed at creating modern engineering equipment, and participate in peacekeeping operations around the world To carry out all the strategic and tactical tasks assigned to the engineering troops, they have various units: pontoon, road, engineer and other equally important units Military personnel and employees of this branch of the military, as well as former employees and cadets, take part in the festive events dedicated to the Day of the Engineering Forces of Armenia On anniversary dates, in a solemn atmosphere, distinguished military personnel are awarded awards, insignia, new ranks, given extraordinary leave, and given memorable gifts On this day, they also remember the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for the glory of their country and ensuring peace in the Armenian land
